The reaction of photogenerated carriers in TiO2 particles with adsorbates were studied using time-resolved IR spectroscopy. Photogenerated electrons gave a broad transient IR absorption. By analyzing the decay curves of that absorption in the presence of reactant molecules, we found that the reaction of holes with water and methanol proceeds much faster than that of electrons.
