Abstract
Theproblemofsemiclassicalevaluationoftheground-statetunnelingsplittingiscompletelysolvedforanyRiemannianmetricandarbitrarynumberofdegreesoffreedom ItisprovedthattheinstantonmethodbasedonthepathintegralformalismandtheWKBapproximationfortheShrodingerequationyieldanidenticalresultforthesplitting Apracticallyeffectivemethodtocalculatetheinstantontrajectoryandtheclassicalactionispresented ThetheoryisgeneralizedforanarbitraryRiemannianmetricandappliedtothehydrogentunnelinginthethree-andtwentyone-dimensionalsystemsofHO2andmalonaldehyde,respectively
